空気と音

最近空気の善し悪しが気になって、医療用の空気清浄機を購入しました。空気がきれいだと、肺がよろこんでいるのはわかる！っていうのは大げさだけど、毎朝ヨガをやっているせいか、息を大きく吸い込んだときに、空気がきれいだとそのときのポーズがうまく決まるということに気づいたんです。ほんとかいな？でも今まであまり意識していなかった空気というもののありがたみに最近気づかされています。

それで、たまたま何かのCDで蝉の声を聞いたときに、音って空気をふるわせるものなんだ！と今更ながらはたと思いたったんです。声も、音楽も、鳴き声も、風の音も、すべて空気の振動から始まる。空気がなかったら、音楽を奏でることはできないんですね。
私が毎日しこしこと練習している音楽というものは、空気をふるわせるという運動の発展したものなのですよ。そう思うと、スケールがどうとか音程がどうとか、何を自分は些細なことで悩んでいるんだろう、と思ったりするわけですね。空気をふるわせているということに、ちょっと意識を向けてみよう。そうしたら、根本から自分の音楽が変わるかもしれない。

Air and Sound
Lately I have been concerned about the quality of air, so we bought a medical grade air purifier for our house.  When the air is clean, I can feel my lungs are happy! (I might be exaggerating...) but when I practice Yoga everyday, I noticed that whenever I take a big breath, and if the air is clean, the pose I'm trying to do right then is rather successful...or I hope that's the case.
But it is true that I'm recently very much into clean air.

 And I noticed something about air when I was listening to the sound of cicadas on a CD and that is; the sound is the vibration of air!  Of course it is, but I don't normally think that way so it was a sort of an enlightenment for me.
The voice, the music, the sound of animals, the wind, all these will start from the vibration of air.  If there's no air, we cannot play music!
The music I've been practicing everyday, is a sort of a refined form of air vibration.  When I think that way, I can't help but think, "What am I doing by worrying or whining about scales, chords, and the pitch everyday?"
 Why don't we think about vibrating the air around us, and our music might change from its core.

Facebookに柚子のファンクラブを作りたいくらい柚子が好きです。今年の春、裏庭に小さな柚子の木を植え、そこに柚子が３つなりました。とれたての柚子は香りも濃厚！（アメリカという土壌そしてこちらの硬水で育っても、紫蘇のように香りが失われたりすることがないのもいいですね。）
 写真は最近新しくお嫁入りしてきた柚子の木です。仲良くしている庭師さんが私たちのためにとカリフォルニア中を探しまわってゲットしてきてくれたものです。
柚子ジャムをせっせと作って、友達に配っています！

I LOVE Yuzu fruits so much that I'm even thinking about launching a YUZU fanclub on Facebook.
In spring this year, we planted a small Yuzu tree on our backyard, and that one bore 3 fruits.  Picked right from the tree, their aroma is so strong and fresh!  (Even though the tree is growing in America which has VERY different soil and water from Japan, the fruit still keeps its signature YUZU aroma, which is amazing.)

The picture is a new Yuzu tree that recently was adopted into my family.  Our kind gardener Dago searched all across California to find such a beautiful Yuzu tree.

I'm currently becoming a Yuzu jam making machine and sharing it with my friends!
